For identification Plant Scanner sends the captured photo to a Wender Media proxy server (demo.wender.media), which forwards the request to the Pl@ntNet API and returns its response. This is the only function of the app that leaves the device.
Before upload the image is downscaled and re-encoded as JPEG, which strips the EXIF data including GPS coordinates. A random device identifier is sent along; it is generated locally on first launch and stored in the app settings. It serves solely to enforce the limit of 20 requests per device per day and contains no information about you or your device. The proxy stores no images.
For taxonomic details the app queries the public GBIF database through the same proxy. Only the species name is transmitted for this.
Without an internet connection identification does not work; all other functions such as the herbarium and the garden map remain available offline.
To photograph a plant the app asks for camera access; alternatively you can use an image from your photo library. Images are stored locally in the herbarium without EXIF and GPS data.
Optionally the app marks find locations on the garden map and asks for your location for this. The coordinates are stored locally with the find only; they are not sent to the proxy server or to third parties. The permission is voluntary and can be revoked at any time.
The map view loads map data through Apple MapKit. Apple processes the requests required for this under its own privacy policy. The developer of this app receives no data from it.
Herbarium, identification results, and settings are stored locally using SwiftData. They are removed when you delete the app.
The app contains no analytics SDKs, advertising libraries, tracking pixels, or similar technologies. No user tracking takes place.
The app is distributed via the Apple App Store. Apple may collect device-related data under its own privacy policy, available at: apple.com/privacy
